In this video clip I show how I use my collection of jars with screw top lids to play a matching game.
In the video I do the actions to illustrate how to play the game.
I also illustrate how you can use questions and comments to encourage and guide a child's actions.
When a child first plays with a set of jars they use trial and error to figure out which lids fits on which jar. But with a bit of practice children will usually match to lids to the jars quickly with few mistakes.
Children will also deliberately make mistakes in matching lid to jar: this is an important part of the learning process. It confirm that the lid does not belong with the jar.
