Infants using the hands to get thing done

Infant start to use their hands to explore their environment from the first weeks after birth.

Young infant use their hands to feel and explore any surface they encounter, and they start to reach towards interesting objects that come into reaching distance.

From 9-12 months infants will use their hands to explore interesting objects, and also start to grasp and hold toys placed in their hands.

They start to combine the information from touch, taste, sound and vision to build a coherent picture of the world around - and this early exploratory action is essential for later developing thinking skills and cognitive knowledge about the world.
